China's Humanoid Robots Capture 97% of Global Shipments in H1 2026; Unitree Eyes Star Market Listing

A Near Monopoly in a Fast-Growing Market

Chinese manufacturers collectively accounted for more than 97% of global humanoid robot shipments in the first half of 2026, according to industry research data reported on August 11, 2026. Global humanoid robot shipments reached approximately 19,100 units in H1 2026, up nearly 300% year-on-year from approximately 5,100 units in H1 2025 — a near-tripling that underscores the explosive commercial potential of embodied AI.

Who's Leading: Chinese Champions

Among the leading Chinese humanoid robot developers, Zhiyuan (Zhi Yuan) ranked first in shipments, followed closely by Unitree Robotics and other domestic firms. The competitive advantage rests on China's electronics manufacturing supply chain, robotics integration expertise, and the vast domestic application scenarios for humanoid robots in logistics, manufacturing, elder care, and service industries.

Unitree's Star Market IPO

Unitree Robotics — a leading quadruped and humanoid robot maker — is preparing for an IPO on the Shanghai Star Market (科创板). IPO subscription activity attracted strong preliminary investor demand, with the listing set to draw significant attention from the A-share market given the humanoid robotics sector's scorching growth trajectory and China's technology investment narrative.

The 2026 World Robot Conference

From August 19–23, 2026, Beijing will host the World Robot Conference at the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (亦庄). The conference will feature over 300 exhibitors (up 36% YoY), more than 2,000 exhibits, and more than 150 new product launches. The event is supported by nearly 30 international institutions, with international speakers accounting for 30% of main forum presentations.

Strategic Importance

Humanoid robotics represents the convergence of AI, precision manufacturing, and embodied intelligence — a sector where China's industrial base and AI capabilities create a formidable competitive position. The 97% global market share is not accidental: it reflects years of policy support (Robotics Industry Development Plan), R&D investment, and supply chain depth that few countries can replicate at scale.
