31 Chinese Provinces Chart AI Industry Map as High-Tech Manufacturing Accelerates

All 31 provincial-level administrative regions in China have unveiled their artificial intelligence industry development roadmaps, with the latest economic data revealing a clear gradient pattern in AI capability across regions, according to comprehensive industrial analysis published in early August 2026.

Regional AI Landscape

Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu lead the national AI industry landscape, with particularly strong concentrations of AI research institutions, technology companies, and computing infrastructure. Second-tier regions, including Anhui, Hubei, Sichuan, and Shaanxi, are rapidly building AI ecosystems with a focus on application scenarios in manufacturing and public services.

The data shows that demand for AI terminal applications has significantly boosted growth in high-tech manufacturing, with multiple regions reporting double-digit increases in industrial robot and integrated circuit production during the first half of 2026.

Trade Data Reflects AI Boom

China's export data underscores the growing competitiveness of Chinese AI-related products. During the first half of 2026, exports of industrial robots reached 6.29 billion yuan, up 18.6%, reaching 141 countries and regions. Surgical robot exports totaled 480 million yuan, surging 3.3 times year-on-year, illustrating the breadth of China's expanding "new, new three pillars" alongside NEVs, lithium batteries, and solar products.

Policy Support

Government policy has been a key accelerant, with targeted subsidies, tax incentives, and dedicated AI industrial parks drawing investment and talent across the country. The NDRC's implementation plan for the 2026-2030 domestic demand expansion strategy explicitly identifies AI and advanced technology as priority areas for investment and consumption support.
