A New Monthly Benchmark
BYD sold 419,211 new-energy vehicles in July 2026, the company announced — a new single-month record and a surge of more than 100,000 units compared with the same month a year earlier. The figure cements BYD's position as the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturer and underscores the extraordinary pace of China's EV market expansion.
Scale and Structure of BYD's Sales
- July 2026 total: 419,211 units (NEVs incl. pure EVs and plug-in hybrids)
- Domestic market: The vast majority of units are sold within China, where EV penetration surpassed 50% of new car sales in mid-2026
- Export channel: Growing overseas shipments — particularly to Europe, Southeast Asia and Latin America — are expanding BYD's global footprint
- Model mix: The best-selling lines include the Seal, Dolphin and Song families, covering the mass-market segment that drives volume
2026 Product Offensive
On August 11, 2026, BYD launched the 2027 Seal 06 — a new generation of its best-selling sedan — at a starting price of 99,800 yuan (~$14,712). The model features BYD's second-generation Blade Battery with a claimed range of 630 km on a single charge, alongside updated intelligent driving assistance and an expanded infotainment system. The aggressive pricing is intended to broaden the addressable market and fend off competitors including Tesla, Nio and XPeng.
China's EV Export Surge
BYD's performance is emblematic of a broader national trend: China's full-year NEV exports reached 2.615 million units in 2025, up 103.7% year-on-year and making China the world's largest NEV exporter for the third consecutive year. In H1 2026, China's self-branded NEVs captured 24% of overseas market share — up 10 percentage points from the prior year — with the EU as the primary growth driver.
Competitive Position
BYD's vertical integration model — encompassing battery cell production, drivetrain electronics and vehicle assembly — gives it a structural cost advantage that is difficult for rivals to replicate. With global EV adoption accelerating and BYD expanding production capacity in Europe via its Hungarian plant, the company is well-positioned to sustain its leadership through 2027.
