Beijing's Exports Hit All-Time High of 3.133 Trillion Yuan in H1 2026, Q2 Growth Accelerates to 8.7%

Record Export Performance

Beijing's goods exports reached a historical high of 3.133 trillion yuan in the first half of 2026, representing year-on-year growth of 4.5%, according to data from Beijing Customs. The figure underscores the capital's expanding role as a national trade hub despite a challenging global environment for Chinese exporters.

A notable acceleration was evident in the second quarter: while first-quarter exports grew a modest 0.1% to 1.475 trillion yuan, second-quarter exports surged 8.7% to 1.658 trillion yuan. Monthly data shows a clear upward trajectory, with June posting the strongest growth at 13.2%, following 6.1% in April and 6.9% in May.

Structural Factors

Beijing's export strength is concentrated in high-value sectors including pharmaceuticals, precision instruments, cultural exports, and services trade. The city's position as home to headquarters of major technology and biotech companies gives it a distinct export profile compared with manufacturing-heavy coastal cities.

Q2 Acceleration Drivers

Analysts attribute the second-quarter acceleration to improving global demand conditions, favorable base effects from the prior year, and the government's pro-export policy measures. Beijing's push to develop the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integrated economic zone has also facilitated smoother cross-border logistics and supply chain coordination.
